LACTULOSE BREATH TEST

The lactulose breath test can be carried out both to diagnose the possible presence of bacterial overgrowth and an alteration of the golden-cecal transit time.

The test can be carried out by patients who have gastrointestinal disorders with flatulence, meteorism, diarrhea, distension and abdominal cramps and consists of a collection of samples of exhaled air, before and after ingestion of a specific sugar dissolved in water (lactulose), in a plastic bag at regular intervals.
